Text Box: It never ceases to amaze me how fast time flies here at DRA.  It seems like yesterday I was sitting in hearings, getting updated phone calls at all hours and devising a daily strategy to navigate a busy legislative session.  As most of you gear up for summer fun, here at DRA we are attempting to catch our breath and get caught up.  In no time, the fundraisers and preparations for the holiday programs will be in full swing.  It will be a busy summer but a welcome relief from roaming the halls of the capital.

For those of you who do not know how the new Medicaid reform will impact you, here is a brief breakdown.  MAWD, Ticket to Work will be reinstated allowing individuals to return to work and not lose medical coverage.  Several optional services that were cut will be restored such as durable medical, vision and dental.  The bad news is optional services must be funded each year, so you can expect a fight each new session.  On a more positive note, the aged, blind and disabled were excluded from mandatory managed healthcare, therefore avoiding a disaster.  Unfortunately, financial eligibility was not adjusted and we will have

Followthemoney.org to track contributions from nursing homes to state politicians:

On the right side of the screen, under the heading  start Your Search Here  select the state and election year you are interested in. (i.e. Arkansas 2004)
In the same area, directly above  Submit Search  it will say special Interests (optional)   Click and scroll down to select  hospitals and Nursing Homes ·
Submit Search
· On the next screen, you will find a chart showing Contributor Name, Employer, Occupation, State, Zip Code, Business, Records, and Amount.
· We are only interested with the contributors who have nursing homes in the Business column.
· The State column tells you what state the contributor is from.  For example, in the Arkansas 2004 search, a fifth of the way down we come to Norman J. Estes, who gave money to Arkansas state politicians but is from Alabama.
· Click on a Contributor. (Arkansas Health Care Association)
· At the top of the page, you will find how much the individual contributor gave to all candidates during this election cycle and in this state, along with the breakdown of money given to Democrats, Republicans, Third Parties, and Ballot Measures.
· Scrolling down, you will find the list of candidates, party committees, and ballot committees that received money from the contributor, the office where applicable and the amount of this individual donation.  It is important to note that a contributor may have made multiple donations to a candidate in the same cycle (see Charles Ormond or Bill Pritchard).  These individual returns must be summed to find the total contribution.
· Click on a candidate (i.e. Reginald Murdock)
· On this page, you will find the candidate  party, his intended office, and his total money raised for this election cycle.
· Scrolling down, you will find a list of top contributors.  In the case of Reginald Murdock, you see that the Arkansas Health Care Association donated 1,000, or 13.79% of his fundraising.  In cases where the contributor was not a top contributor, the percent will not appear on the screen, but using the Total Raised to Date line at the top of the page, it can be deduced.
· Use the back arrow on your browser to return to the list of candidates and continue your research into this contributor, or focus again on the Start Your Search Here section and pick a different search entirely.
